Why is it either too hot or too cold in the Central Library?

We are all too aware of the environmental conditions in Central Library and have, for a number of years, been working with College in order to remedy the situation. Unfortunately the project to do this, whilst having been approved by College, has not yet been fully funded – the first phase which would address levels 4 & 5 has been costed at £13.5m of which less than half has been allocated. The planning permission for the chiller equipment on the roof has been approved by the local planning authority.

We regret that there is very little that we can do at present other than sympathise greatly with all who use the building and continue to lobby for the project to be prioritised for funding in the hope that we can commence work whilst the planning permission is still valid.

Any support that students can add to that lobby either through the Business School and/or through ICU will help.
